Ashgabat - is the capital of Turkmenistan, the largest city of the country, its industrial, scientific and cultural center. The city is located in the southeastern part of the state, located in the picturesque valley of the foothills of the Kopet Dagh. It lies at an altitude of 214-240 m above sea level, while at the same latitude to Athens, San Francisco and Seoul.

Turkmenbashi. That is a quite small and cozy town, which is located on the shores of the Gulf of Krasnovodsk that is, actually, of 520 kilometers to north-west of Ashgabat. The city lies at an altitude of 27 meters above a sea level, surrounded from the eastern side by a semicircle of low mountains and hills. Turkmenbashi - is one of the largest ports in the country on the Caspian Sea. Previously, before 1993 year, the city was called like Krasnovodsk, but then, was renamed in honor of the country's first president.

Dashoguz. That is the city in the north-eastern part of the country, it is also the capital of Dashoguz province. Dashoguz is situated in 546 kilometres from the Turkmen capital – Ashgabat city and 76.6 kilometres from the town of Nukus - the capital of Karakalpakstan of Uzbekistan.

The current name of the town comes originally from the name of tribal association – “Dash Oguz", which means "External Oguz"(official version). Actually, there is also "Ich Oguz" as well as “Inner Oguz" - the separation of the Turkmen tribes in the territory of residence.
