Abu Ali Husayn ibn Abdallah ibn Sina, Latinized form is Avicenna (980-1037) - was Persian scholar and lexicographer, physician, philosopher, musician and poet. Abu Ali was born on August 16, 980 in the village Afshana, close to Bukhara. The boy's father was a prominent official of Bukhara, a native of Balkh - the capital of Greek-Bactrian kingdom, gave the child a comprehensive education at home, indulging with pleasure early awakened thirst for knowledge.
